Bombs found near Surigao del Norte police station

SURIGAO CITY- Two live bombs were found near the Tubod, Surigao del Norte Municipal Police Station and in an open pit mining area on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Director Senior Supt. Emmanuel Talento said they received a distress call on Wednesday from Tubod, Surigao del Norte Chief of Police Police Inspector Neil Mautin asking for a police bomb detonating team.

Two live 60 millimeter mortar shells with their fuses still intact were found near the Tubod Police Station and an open pit mining area near the municipal hall.

Talento, together with Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team headed by bomb expert and technician PO2 Ivy Recimo, successfully detonated the bombs.

Talento said the recovered bombs are now in the possession of Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office.

He said he has ordered an investigation to determine who placed the bombs and what their motives were. - VVP, GMA News
