Flooding affects 655 families in Surigao Norte
The intermittent to continuous rains brought by the low pressure area and tail end of a cold front last week has affected around 655 families in 10 barangays in the three municipalities of Surigao del Norte, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said.
An initial report from the PDRMMO sent to PIA revealed that the municipality of Mainit accounted for 354 families or 2,124 individuals, which were evacuated in five barangays due to the overflowing of Lake Mainit.
In Tubod, around 139 families or 526 individuals were evacuated from the four barangays while, in the municipality of Alegria, 162 families or 972 individuals were evacuated from only one barangay due to flooding.
Vice Governor Arturo Carlos Egay Jr. spearheaded the relief operations and the initial distribution of food packs to the evacuees of Mainit and Alegria.
“A total of 400 food packs were distributed to the families,” the report added. (FEA/PIA-Surigao del Norte)
