National Economic Development Authority (NEDA) Director-General Cayetano Paderanga, Jr. commended the leadership of Gov. Sol Matugas for mounting the first ever Provincial Economic Summit in Surigao City.

“I would really like to commend you for mounting this very important event and I cannot over-emphasize that,” said Paderanga who was the keynote speaker of the 1-day summit held Wednesday, June 15 at the Provincial Convention Center, Surigao City.

Paderanga described the event as the time to get together and really worked for the betterment of Surigao del Norte and the entire Caraga. “Your summit manifests what should happen in the ground as you implement your own development plan although it will be in harmony with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) for 2011-2016.”

The PDP serves as the country’s road map for development.

As the province embarked in pursuing the Provincial Development Plan, Paderanga also encouraged the provincial government to look into the area based planning that will complement the national, regional and local development plans.

“We believe in the appropriateness of area planning as this crossed regional or local border. This plan is based on the natural and economic units and not political boundaries and this allows a greater complementation of the resources among the LGUs, provides for a more strategic investments and enable social services to the most needed individuals,” said Paderanga.
