Quakes hit Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte


MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded three predawn quakes in Dinagat Island and Surigao del Norte Monday.

A weak 3.8-magnitude tremor was recorded at 12:08 a.m. Monday with its epicenter located 54 kilometers (km) northeast of Loreto, Dinagat Island.

Another weak earthquake also measuring 3.8-magnitude was recorded at 1:12 a.m. Monday. Its epicenter was located 43 km northeast of Loreto in Dinagat Island.

Meanwhile, a weak 2.5-magnitude earthquake that originated 56 kilometers northeast of Burgos, Surigao del Norte was noted at 1:39 a.m. Monday.

Phivolcs said there were no reports of damage to property or loss of lives due to the earthquake.

Likewise, it does not expect aftershocks to occur.
