

Phivolcs: Magnitude-5 quake jolts Surigao area
A magnitude-5.0 quake jolted the Surigao area in Mindanao Friday afternoon, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was tectonic in origin and was recorded at 1:42 p.m.
It said the epicenter was traced to 11 km southeast of San Isidro in Surigao del Norte.
Phivolcs said the quake was felt at:
- Intensity IV: Dapa and Gen. Luna Surigao Del Norte, Siargao Island
- Intensity III: Surigao City; Cabadbaran, Agusan del Sur
- Intensity II: Carrascal, Surigao del Sur; Butuan City
No damage or aftershock was expected from the quake, Phivolcs said.
Meanwhile, the United States Geological Survey measured the quake at magnitude 5.0.
USGS said the epicenter was traced to:
- 60 km east-northeast of Surigao
- 118 km south-southeast of Guiuan, Samar
- 126 km north-northeast of Butuan
- 746 km southeast of Manila.
