CARAGA cops nabbed six suspected illegal loggers in Claver, Surigao Del Norte
MANILA — Elements of the Surigao Del Norte Provincial Public Safety Company have arrested six suspected illegal loggers and confiscated from them 1,500 board feet of "lawaan" lumber during operations in Barangay Tayaga, Claver Sunday afternoon.
Supt. Martin Gamba, CARAGA police spokesperson, identified the arrested men as Nicolas G. Tiu, 55; Rexis B. Tenira, 23; Benedict Castroverde, 24; Nino Neil Arjona, 30; Edgar Bucalon, 20; and Raymundo Bucarile, 19.
All of them are residents of Cantilan, Surigao Del Sur.
Gamba said the law enforcers, while conducting routine anti-illegal logging operations, sighted the group's vehicle, a white Canter truck (YAU-587), at around 3 p.m. loaded with lawaan lumber.
And when flagged down by the police, the suspects could not present any pertinent documents showing that they were authorized to cut or transport wood products.
The seized "lawaan" lumber, which is now in police custody, has a net value of P4,000. The Canter truck was also impounded.
Gamba said police were preparing charges against the suspects. (PNA)
